Virtual assistants have seen a massive boom in the past few years, with assistants like Amazon Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and Google Assistant becoming a part of the home more and more each day. If you’ve ever thought about wanting Alexa without having to purchase the Alexa smart speaker then you’re in luck! You can access Alexa on your laptop without having to purchase anything at all.
Best of all, it doesn’t matter what kind of laptop you have, so you can install the Alexa app on a 2-in-1 laptop, a Macbook, or whatever else you have – as long as it has access to the Microsoft store. If you’re unable to, then you may have to find other ways of doing so.
Let’s chat about how you can download Alexa onto your laptop!
Downloading Amazon Alexa Onto Your Laptop
To download Alexa onto your laptop, you’ll need to access the Microsoft Store. The Microsoft Store comes pre-installed on Windows 10 and 11 laptops, and is available on Macbooks too!
From there, the process is fairly simple. Navigate to the Microsoft Store, search for the Alexa app on the store, and click on “Get” and then “Download”. The application is fairly small, coming in at about 81 MBs more or less. Please wait until the application has finished downloading and then follow our next set of instructions.
Open the Search Bar on your computer, and use your keyboard to search for Amazon Alexa. Once you’ve found the application then click it and it should lead you to a setup screen.
You’ll have to sign in to your Amazon account to use this application. Enter your Amazon account details and click sign in, or sign up and create a new Amazon account. For those who’ve never made an Amazon account before, you’ll need your e-mail account and a new and secure password.
Once you’re all set up, you’ll have to read through the Terms and Conditions before pressing forward. We recommend you check out the Terms and Conditions, as some people are concerned about the possible lack of privacy that a virtual assistant can infringe upon.
After that’s complete, make sure to click through to allow the microphone to be accessed by your laptop. Then, click on Next.
When it’s set up, you can choose between the hands-free and push-to-talk modes. Make sure to choose which one is the best for you – with hands-free mode, you only need to use your voice to activate your Alexa and get started on your latest to-do list!
Otherwise, you can open the settings on your app to change them to the push-to-talk mode, which will only activate the Alexa icon to give verbal commands.
Once that’s complete, you can finish up the last of the configurations that you need to do, but once that’s done you can click “Finish”. And that’s all you need to do to set up the Alexa laptop app!

You can edit and remove as many things from your to-do lists as you’d like, at any point throughout the day. Best of all, if you are using Amazon to order your groceries then you can automatically have them delivered using your Amazon account and Alexa.
Tell Jokes or Stories
One of the most fun uses that you use your Alexa device and application for is the excellent jokes and stories that the application can use. Simply ask your Alexa for a joke, a funny story, or even a question and you’ll be surprised at how thorough Alexa can be!
What’s more, you can also request Alexa to play music, listen to audiobooks, and learn about anything you’d want to know! Listen to that country music without anyone else listening at home simply by asking Alexa for the best country songs.
Manage Smart Home Devices
Alexa is also able to control the other smart devices that make their place in your home, including your smart TV, lights, and your alarms, and camera system. Change the light display of your home and background easily and without the hassle of speaking to Alexa.
You can also change the channel using Alexa, or switch up and see if your security camera operating system has been up and running.
Create Your Morning Routine
One of our favorite features of Alexa is the fact that you can mold and create your morning routine. Wake up and enjoy your Alexa telling you about the day’s weather, what the latest news stories are, and perhaps even making you a cup of coffee if you have a smart coffee maker.
